To report the outcome of the tender for
continued supported bus services and seek a decision to award a new
contract.
That the Executive Director:
i. Notes the supporting information and tender assessment at CONFIDENTIAL Appendix A.
ii. Approves the award of a new contract to Supplier B for the delivery of supported bus services from 1 August 2023 on the basis of Option 1.
The current contract for supported bus services expires on 31 July 2023 and cannot be extended further under the terms of the contract. The Council is required to secure the ongoing provision of bus services which would otherwise not be provided on a commercial basis.
The Local Transport Plan sets out the Council’s role regarding bus transport in the Borough. This includes procuring socially necessary services that are not provided by the free market, subject to funding. Failure to award this contract would be contrary to the position set out in the Council’s adopted Transport Policy.
