School Admission Arrangements 2023-24

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Children, Young People and Learning

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To agree the admission arrangements for the 2023/24 academic year for community and voluntary controlled primary and secondary schools .

Decision:

       i.         The outcomes of the consultation on admission arrangements was noted.

ii.         Following a public consultation it was agreed to reduce the designated / catchment area for Garth Hill College to remove it from the shared area with King’s Academy Binfield, creating a separate designated area for each school.

Reasons for the decision:

i.                  King’s Academy Binfield opened in September 2018 with 120 students in year 7 only. A designated area was created for the new school within the 2018/19 admission arrangements at the time.

ii.                  The designated area for King’s Academy Binfield consisted of part of the existing Garth Hill College designated area. (shown on the attached map Appendix A)

iii.                  The designated area for Garth Hill College was not reduced at the time of creating one for King’s Academy Binfield, as the new school was only able to accept pupils into year 7. Reducing the designated area for Garth Hill College at the time would have resulted in those with children in years 8-11 in the King’s Academy Binfield designated area, being without a designated school for those year groups. It was therefore decided to create a shared area in the interim.

Since opening in 2018 King’s Academy Binfield has gradually opened additional year groups each year and from September 2022, the school will be fully open to accepting pupils into all year groups, removing the need for the shared designated area
