Petition to Bracknell Forest Council to Declare a Climate and Environmental Emergency

We the undersigned petition the council to support the IPCC R15 goals by: 1. Declaring a ‘Climate and Environmental Emergency’. 2. Pledging to make the Borough of Bracknell Forest carbon neutral by 2030. 3. Developing a detailed plan of action and reporting back to council in six months’ time. 4. Reviewing all existing policies and strategies and procedures in the light of these new objectives.

The unfolding climate and environmental crisis is the most serious threat human civilisation has ever faced. The evidence is now unequivocal. The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report R15 sets goals for reducing carbon emissions in order to prevent catastrophic climate warming. AND, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), is stark in its global assessment: One million species already face extinction. Current trajectories are inadequate.
