An agreement has been entered into with Civica
UK Ltd to provide software support and hosting of the
Council’s Modern.Gov servers, along with access to the
Modern.Gov app.
The Council purchased the Modern.Gov software
to improve efficiency in democratic services functions in 2005.
This included an annual support package. The Modern Gov software
has become the market leader whilst the original company has since
changed hands a couple of times and is now part of Civica. The
Modern.Gov software is only available from Civica and is only
supported by them. Another similar package is available at similar
cost from an alternative supplier, but to move to a new product
would incur additional costs in terms of re-training and start-up
costs without any obvious additional benefits. The software package
has evolved over the 15 years that the Council has been using it,
including to respond quickly to legislative changes. It is now
deployed in other directorates and has proved highly effective
being easy to use and simplifying processes. The company has always
responded well to support calls. In the absence of anyone else able
to support this software, a waiver is sought to enable the
longstanding software and support arrangement to continue, and for
the company to extend its support by hosting the servers as part of
the Council’s migration of its servers to the
Cloud.
To re-tender the contract.
