Decision Maker: Executive

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To approve the award of the joint Berkshire Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) maintenance contract over a 10 year period. ITS infrastructure includes bespoke telecoms systems, traffic signals equipment, traffic CCTV systems, real-time passenger information systems and variable message signs.

Decision:

RESOLVED that

i.      the supporting information and tender assessment at confidential

Annex A is noted.

ii.     the award of a new joint contract to Bidder 2 is approved having submitted the most economically advantageous tender for the delivery of ITS maintenance

from July 2024.

Reasons for the decision:

The existing joint Berkshire- traffic signal maintenance contract, let over 15 years ago

by Reading Borough Council, has been re-procured and modernised to meet current

needs.

Alternative options considered:

None. Failure to award a replacement contract would result in ITS infrastructure not

being maintained, furthermore urgent traffic signal outages etc. would not be

attended in line with set response times putting road users at increased risk.
