Purpose:

To approve a 3-year extension of the town centre Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) which gives police a power to seize and confiscate alcohol from people who are causing, or are likely to cause, anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Decision:

That the extension of the existing Public Space Protection Order relating to Bracknell town centre be approved for a further 3 years until 20 October 2023.

Reasons for the decision:

To continue to give police additional powers to tackle alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in the Public Space Protection Order area.

While police do have powers to deal with alcohol-related anti-social behaviour, most allow them only to act when an offence takes place or by a specific person whereas the Public Space Protection Order powers allow action to be taken for any individual in breach and can be used when an offence is likely to occur.
