Adult Weight Management Service in Bracknell Forest

Decision Maker: Consultant in Public Health

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To award the contract to provide a community based service to improve the health and well-being of overweight and obese adults by supporting them to achieve and maintain a healthier weight and improve physical fitness through making appropriate and sustainable lifestyle changes to their eating and physical activity habits.

Decision:

RESOLVED that the Adult Weight Management Service contract commencing
1st April 2018 is awarded Tenderer A.

Reasons for the decision:

This contract will ensure that residents of Bracknell Forest can access a T2 Adult Weight Management service that is focussed on achieving the best healthy weight outcomes for people.

Alternative options considered:

Not procuring a service would leave Bracknell Forest as the only Unitary Authority in the region without funded a weight management service for obese residents.  Given the high cost and uncertain quality of many commercial programmes, this would result in many people unnecessarily remaining obese.
