Decision details

Introduction of 20mph Speed Limit, West End Lane, Binfield

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Planning and Transport

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To consider the introduction of a 20mph speed limit in West End Lane, Binfield

Decision:

1          That the formal objections received during the statutory consultation process and the corresponding Officer comments be noted;

2          That the position with regard to local ward Members comments received during the informal consultation process be noted;

3          That the Borough Solicitor be authorised to bring the West End Lane – 20mph speed limit Order into effect.

Reasons for the decision:

Speed surveys have shown the appropriate speed limit in West End Lane is 20mph.  In addition, the installation of a new 20mph speed limit on West End Lane will contribute towards improving road safety following the installation of the ‘greenway’footway/cycleway.

Alternative options considered:

To not install the 20mph speed limit would be unlikely to result in a decrease in road safety however the change in speed limit is supported by the majority of residents and therefore not progressing with the proposals would likely be very unpopular.
