Decision details

Introduction of a 20mph speed limit – Church Road and North Road, Ascot

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Planning & Transport

Decision status: Recommendations Approved (subject to call-in)

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To consider the introduction of a 20mph speed limit on Church Road & North Road, Ascot

Decision:

       i)          That the formal objections received during the statutory consultation process and the corresponding Officer comments are noted;

      ii)          That the position with regard to local ward Members comments received during the informal consultation process is noted;

    iii)          That the Borough Solicitor be authorised to bring the Church Road & North Road – 20mph speed limit Order into effect.

Reasons for the decision:

Speed surveys have shown the appropriate speed limit in Church Road and North Road is 20mph. In addition, the installation of a new 20mph speed limit in the roads will encourage lower vehicle speeds and discourage their use as a short-cut.

Alternative options considered:

To not install the 20mph speed limit would be unlikely to result in a decrease in road safety however the issue of short-cutting traffic would remain and the change in speed limit is supported by the majority of residents and therefore not progressing with the proposals would likely be very unpopular.
