Purpose:
To approve the Council's equality objectives for 2012-16.
Decision:
i. That the Council’s Equality Scheme 2012-16 be approved for publication.
ii. That the action plan being developed as an integral part of the Council’s service planning process for 2012-13 be endorsed and brought back to the Executive for approval in May 2012
Reasons for the decision:
- Schedule 1 and 2 of The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011 requires that the Council must:
· Prepare and publish equality objectives by 6 April 2012, and at least every four years thereafter.
· Ensure that those objectives are specific and measurable.
- Publish those objectives in such a manner that they are accessible to the public.
Alternative options considered:
None. The approach the Council is taking to develop its equality scheme is in line with the Equality and Human Right Commission’s guidance published in December 2011 on developing equality objectives.
