Purpose:
The purpose of this item is to review the
Council's Statement of Gambling Principles in accordance with the
Gambling Act 2005. The document is required to be reviewed and
republished following Council approval by the end of January
2019.
Decision:
That the Council endorses the revised Statement at Annex A of the Director: Delivery’s report at its meeting on the 16 January 2019.
Reasons for the decision:
1. Section 349 of the Gambling Act 2005 requires all licensing authorities to prepare and publish a statement of the principles that they propose to apply in exercising their functions under the Act. The Statement will last for a maximum of three years and can be reviewed and revised by the authority at any time. The present Statement was published on 31 January 2016 and therefore must undergo a review and be republished on or before 31 January 2019.
2. The amended Statement was approved by the Licensing & Safety Committee on 18 October 2018.
3. The statement considers matters of child protection in relation to gambling through enforcement, appropriate staffing levels and education.
